Have you seen adult coloring books? They seem to be everywhere these days. There are also lots of articles telling us about the wonderful benefits of taking some time out of the day to be creative, to be quiet, to let your mind relax and take a break. All good stuff in my estimation. I should know, I wrote a coloring. Yes you read that correctly I wrote a coloring book.
I agree there is a great benefit to having a creative outlet in whatever form it may take: a well-planned meal, a lovingly-tended garden, and beautiful penmanship. That is all just as creative as painting, sculpting, knitting, sewing or drawing. But since many of us associate creativity with the arts it is wonderful to have coloring which is accessible to just about everyone.
Taking time out of your busy day to color hardly sounds like an Amish activity. But pondering scripture or doing an activity with God at the center does sound like a very Amish activity. And having a dedicated quiet time definitely qualifies as something an Amish person would find valuable. Well, the book I wrote is a happy combination of both devotional time and coloring time.
When I said I wrote a coloring book I wasn’t kidding. Each coloring page has a full-page devotion to go with it. So while you are picking the perfect color you can be thinking of the scripture you just read and maybe finding an ah-ha moment from the devotion story that went with it. Opening up time for a quiet moment with God can be so hard in our busy world. Here is a way to step into a calm place and discover a fresh way to connect with God.
