History Fact #12
Early Amish settlers differed from early Mennonites. Hunters would laugh at the Amish because they would not attempt to destroy predators, like wolves and panthers, who devastated their sheep. The Amish said they considered it a crime to deprive any of God’s creatures of life, except those which God gave for their use, and that to instruct youth in the use of firearms would lead them to eternal ruin. Most Mennonites felt differently.
