We reached out to our readers to ask, “When did you first fall in love with Amish fiction?”
I first fell in love with Amish fiction about 18 years ago when we became friends with an Amish family in Holmes County. We shared a love of peacocks, and became fast friends. We took their eight-member family to Niagara Falls several years ago on vacation, and stay in their home whenever we go to Holmes County. What a blessing our friendship has been to us. I wanted to learn more about the Amish, so started reading the books, continuing to do so, especially since I recently retired! —Alice R.
I have been a fan of Amish fiction since books became available. I have around 100 books in my collection and could not choose one writer over another. The trilogy books are my favorites but then I have to see if there is ever a sequel in book form on the individual stories in the trilogies. —Joyce K.
I fell in love with the Amish in my twenties, when my best friend and carpool mate in nursing school was beachy Amish or conservative Mennonite. She dressed and looked Amish, but drove a black car and obviously went to college. They didn’t use instruments in their church service, but sang beautifully acapello in four or more part harmony. I went to her church for a while. They had a small mission church in Washington, DC. They were always very welcoming of me even though I was dressed differently. We still exchange Christmas cards each year. —Diana W.
