If I were to dress in Amish clothes around Amish people, would they find it pleasing or disrespectful? For a while now I’ve worn cape dresses and handkerchiefs, sometimes kapps, around my farm. Someone that knows I’m not Amish told me I was being disrespectful and an imposter. Is this true? I believe God wants us to dress modestly and I want to do that other than around my home. What’s your opinion on this subject?
You can wear whatever you like. The Amish are so attuned to the way proper Amish clothes look that they won’t mistake you for being Amish even if “English” people might.
