Looking for a fun place to spend your fall? Why not plan a trip to Ohio’s Amish Country?
There’s a brand new theater there, The Ohio Star, and if you haven’t had the opportunity to visit it yet, you might want to put it on your List of Things to Do After a Great Chicken Dinner and Pie in Ohio Amish Country.
The new Ohio Star Theater, located at 1387 Old State Route 39 NE, is a state of the art facility with rich woods and 500 comfortable padded seats. Trust me, you’re going to love seeing first class entertainment in this new venue. (And did I mention it’s within walking distance to the fabulous Dutch Valley Restaurant and Buffet, and the beautiful Carlisle Inn?
The Confession Musical, based on Beverly Lewis’ bestselling Amish trilogy, returns to Sugar Creek, Ohio, opening August 29 in the new theater and running through November 4. This touching love story is nicely balanced with plenty of drama, laughs, romance, and memorable melodies.
The zany musical, Mennonite Girls Can Cook, based on the hugely popular Mennonite Girls Can Cook cookbooks, plays September 6th through November 4th, followed by Our Christmas Dinner, November 9th through December 16th.
Nationally known celebrity entertainment is also available at the Ohio Star. Even though Mark Lowry’s concerts on September 1 & 2 sold out months ago, there are plenty of upcoming shows to choose from. For more information, check out www.dhgroup.com.
If you’re in the area on September 9th and you happen to love barbeque ribs, you might want to hop on over to The Berlin Harvest Festival & Rib Cook Off. There’s a sidewalk sale, great food, live music and more.
The Ohio Swiss Festival is September 29 & 30, and while you’re downtown, be sure to stop in and say hello to my friends at The Gospel Shop, located at 112 East Main Street in downtown Sugar Creek. Downtown Sugar Creek is also home to the world’s largest outdoor cuckoo clock, as well as the fascinating Alpine Hills Historic Museum.
Charm Days is October 13 and 14. Another must see event for Amish and English alike.
While you’re in the area, you might as well drive on over to the 45,000 square foot Lehman’s Hardware store in Dalton, Ohio where you’re going to find whatever it is you need, and a lot you didn’t even realize you needed.
There’s so much more to see and do in Ohio’s Amish Country, I’ve just skimmed the surface. And that’s not even counting all the beautiful fall colors. It’s all waiting for you in Ohio. Amish Country, Ohio, that is. Hope to see you there!
