I love Shipshewana, Indiana, so I’m very happy to share with you that a bundle of my Shipshewana Mystery series is now available called The Shipshewana Mystery Collection. This bundle contains my three previously released books—Falling to Pieces, A Perfect Square and Material Witness.
So in celebration today, I thought I’d give some travel tips for Shipshewana, Indiana. If you haven’t been there, it’s in the northeast corner of Indiana. I’ve been several times, and it’s a truly wonderful place to visit.
WHO would enjoy going? I think anyone would—but you’ll definitely want to bring a significant other or family member with you so you can enjoy the sights and sounds together.
WHAT can you do? My favorite thing to do is drive through the countryside or sit in a rocker, but there are a lot of other things to do. You can:
- Walk the Pumpkinvine trail.
- Visit other area Amish communities.
- Shop the outdoor market, local stores and Amish small businesses.
- Eat dinner with an Amish family.
- Go on a buggy ride.
WHEN is the best time? I’ve been there in the spring, summer and winter. I loved all three times, and there are always things to do. The weather is quite beautiful in northern Indiana—but if you go in the winter be prepared for a little snow!
WHY go to “Shipshe” as the locals call it? If you want an authentic Amish experience, there are plenty of Amish folk in the area. It’s a very fun and relaxing place to visit!
HOW do you get there? You can fly into Chicago O’Hare’s airport or the regional airport in Grand Rapids Michigan. Either way, you’re looking at a short drive to Shisphewana (under two hours).
As you can tell, Shipshe is one of my favorite travel spots. I do hope you’ll give it a try.
