Do you ever wonder what drives the exploding success of social networks such as Facebook or Twitter or Snapchat or Instagram? Here’s my thought: People seeking people. We have a longing to be needed and to belong to something bigger than ourselves. It’s just the way God wired us. Everyone needs a community. Everyone.
Community is an extremely important aspect of Amish life. The same people work, play and worship together. They join together to help raise a barn, to sew a quilt, to build a new schoolhouse, and then to maintain it. With each event, Amish people attach more deeply as a community, belonging in a way beyond measure. Such is the saying, “People with a heart for God have a heart for people.”
This Thanksgiving, as you gaze around the table, keep this thought in mind: this is your community! Your people.
And we at Amish Wisdom wish you a very blessed Thanksgiving!
